As we begin to bid farewell to summer nights, we usher in new connections and destinations with Omnitrans! Reap the benefits of our upcoming service enhancements, effective Tuesday, September 3, 2019. (Remember: Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 2019 is a no-service holiday!)

September service changes include minor transfer point enhancements and runtime adjustments, but most notably, three routes are undergoing big changes: Route 11, Route 22, and Route 208.

Route 12 will connect Fontana Metrolink, Rialto, and north San Bernardino/CSUSB. Click map to enlarge.

To connect riders traveling east from Fontana, Route 11 will become the new Route 12, providing direct access from Fontana Metrolink to the CSUSB campus. Route 12 will serve major employment centers along the way, including Amazon warehouses and the Renaissance Marketplace in Rialto, which opened in 2018, creating a multitude of jobs as well as destinations to eat, shop, and play. Note: Route 12 will not connect at the San Bernardino Transit Center.

Route 22 will now serve the Renaissance Marketplace in Rialto. Click map to enlarge.

Route 22 will slightly realign to provide bus service to visitors and employees of the Renaissance Marketplace along Linden, Renaissance Parkway and Ayala in Rialto.

As you might have already known, Freeway Express Route 208 connecting Yucaipa, Redlands, and San Bernardino will be eliminated due to low usage. Fortunately, service between Yucaipa and San Bernardino is still available via Route 19 (with transfer to Route 2) and Route 8.

Summary of all September service changes:

  • Route 1: 8:37 p.m. trip eliminated on Saturdays.
  • Route 3: 7:23 a.m. and 5:33 p.m. trips eliminated on Sundays.
  • Route 7: 8:23 p.m. and 9:23 p.m. trips eliminated on weekdays.

  • Route 15: 5:39 a.m. and 8:13 p.m. trips eliminated on weekdays.

Guide to September 2018 Service Changes

Don’t miss out on the newest Bus Book, effective Tuesday, September 4, 2018, one day after Labor Day (which, just as a reminder, is a no-service holiday). Several changes will go into effect, targeted to improve your experience riding Omnitrans to work, school, or entertainment.

Major changes include enhancement of transfer points, increased coverage in certain areas, and realignment of routes to better serve you. Additionally, beginning September 4th, pennies will no longer be accepted as a form of payment onboard, and there will be a new way to save while riding Omnitrans!

Over in East Valley, Route 14 will be realigned in Downtown San Bernardino to travel along E Street instead of D Street, allowing for easier transfers to and from sbX and Route 2. On Route 15, a new connection to Pass Transit Route 125 has been added at Alabama & Lugonia Ave.

It also will now be easier to get around Upland in West Valley. A loop extension has been added to the northern end of Route 83 to better serve the Colonies Crossroads shopping center, as seen in the map below.

Route 83 will now loop around the Colonies Crossroads shopping center.

In Ontario, a realignment of Route 86 along Bon View Avenue provides direct service to Baldy View Regional Occupational Program (ROP) Career Training Center, as well as to the Dorothy A. Quesada Community Center.

Route 86 now travels along Bon View Avenue.

To improve efficiencies and avoid delays at boarding time, Omnitrans buses will no longer accept pennies as fare payment onboard. This will help reduce farebox jams and delays, speeding up the boarding process for our riders. Pennies will continue to be accepted as a form of payment for cash purchases of Omnitrans bus passes at the San Bernardino Transit Center and administrative headquarters.

Furthermore, Omnitrans is encouraging riders to use a paperless bus pass and save money! Digital bus passes available on the Token Transit app will now have the option to save in two ways: a 10-pack of single ride tickets for the price of 9, and a 10-pack of 1-Day passes for the price of 9. Help Omnitrans help the environment while saving you some cash! To download the Token Transit app and go digital, click here.

New fares for veterans

Effective January 5th,  veterans will be able to ride for 50% off of the regular full fare price. Veterans simply need to show retired military ID when boarding any Omnitrans route to take advantage of the discounted fare. The veterans fare can be used on the sbX rapid line, 215 freeway express, local bus routes, and OmniGo community.

Acceptable veteran IDs include those issued by the County of San Bernardino Department of Veterans Affairs, the US Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense. If you are a veteran and you don’t have one already, Omnitrans encourages you to get a retired military ID. (see right) ID application information for the County of San Bernardino Military Veteran ID card can be found online at http://hss.sbcounty.gov/va or by calling 866-4SB-VETS (866-472-8387).

Active duty military personnel must wear the appropriate uniform at the time of boarding and present a valid U.S. Unformed Services ID card indicating active service or a Common Access card indicating uniformed services or active duty.

Police and fire personnel must be in full Class A uniform at the time of boarding.

Service changes: Online store closure, NexTrip info

omnitrans busNew fares and service changes go into effect on Tuesday, September 2nd.  Maps and schedules, as well as the bus book, will be updated on our website early that morning. Please see below for details on how the switchover will affect NexTrip and our online store.

NEXTRIP
For the first couple of weeks, NexTrip real time bus arrival information may appear to be off in some cases. This is because the technology is based upon historical route information which tells the system how long it takes for a bus to travel from one location to another.  It will take a few days for routes that have undergone significant changes to establish a historical pattern upon which NexTrip can accurately base its arrival predictions. Thank you for your patience as we work through the adjustment.

ONLINE STORE CLOSURE
If you would like to take advantage of the current fare prices and buy passes in advance, you still have a few days left to do so. In order to make the necessary fare updates, our online store will close at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 29th. It will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2nd with the new pricing.
