Ride Omnitrans to popular film locations in the Inland Empire!

Hollywood is known all over the world for its grand production of movies and television series. Luckily for those of us out here in San Bernardino County, we are only about 60 miles east of Hollywood, and can hop on the train to enjoy the great scenery, the iconic Hollywood sign, or the Walk of Fame.

But, did you know that the Inland Empire also has hidden gems of its own that are featured in some of Hollywood’s most popular films? See the list below for our top picks, and how you can spot them next time you’re riding Omnitrans!

Terminator II: Judgment Day, starring the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger, ends with a fiery scene where the T-1000 Terminator is pushed into a steel mill, which happens to be the famed Kaiser Steel plant located between Cherry Avenue and Etiwanda Avenue in Fontana! Part of the plant has since been torn down, paved over, and turned into the Auto Club Speedway, while the other portion has become California Steel. You can see this historic site by riding Route 61.

Another popular destination that has had a large impact in the film industry is the famous Wigwam Motel, located in San Bernardino. The Wigwam Motel is grounded on Route 66 and bears a familiar resemblance to the Cozy Cone Motel from Disney’s Cars movie released in 2006. You can check out this popular destination on Route 14.

Nearby, also along Route 66 in Rialto, is Chris’s Burgers, formerly a Burger Chef. This local burger joint was featured in the popular series Mad Men, Episode 706 as a recreation of popular classic chain Burger Chef. The burger joint has maintained its original structure and basic design. You can visit Chris’s Burgers for lunch and travel back in time on Route 14.

You may be a little more familiar with this “field of dreams” – Jay Littleton Ball Park located in Ontario. The ball park has been featured in popular baseball films like A League of Their Own, The Babe, and popular TV show The X-Files. You can root for your favorite team during their season by riding on Route 86.

One of the oldest train stations in California was featured in the film “Changeling” starring Angelina Jolie. The crime mystery drama film directed by Clint Eastwood was partially filmed at the finest train station in the west circa 1918, the Santa Fe Depot in San Bernardino. The film was based on real life events in 1928 and perfectly fit the time setting for this film. Take Route 1 and see if you can spot the similarities to the film!
