Colorful pieces of chalk and a six-foot by six-foot plot of the sidewalk is all it took for masterpieces to come to life at the 4th Annual SBTC Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest, held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the San Bernardino Transit Center.
Omnitrans was proud to host this year’s event in partnership with Untapped Hip-Hop, drawing over 100 spectators and 27 chalk artists, who conveyed their interpretation of this year’s theme – Unity in the Community – with sidewalk chalk works of art.
“We are happy to celebrate four years of linking Inland Empire residents to the greater Southern California region via the extensive transit connections available at the San Bernardino Transit Center,” said Omnitrans spokesperson Nicole Ramos. “Through our partnerships with Untapped Hip-Hop and local businesses served by Omnitrans routes, this year’s celebratory art contest truly embodied the spirit of unity in the community.”
Contestants competed individually and in teams, while local musicians kept the crowd of visitors and transit riders entertained with their original music. Everyone in attendance was treated to beverages courtesy of Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling, while prizes generously provided by Viva La Boba, Fiesta Village, Chick-Fil-A, Cardenas Markets, and Baker’s Drive-Thru were raffled throughout the day to lucky winners.
In the end, four judges from the local arts community came together to deliberate and select the top three winners. Once again, the bar was elevated this year, making this decision a tough one for our judges!
