Omnitrans Seeks Public Comment on Significant Service Changes for Fall 2020

To prepare the agency for future regional transit needs and ensure long-term financial sustainability, Omnitrans is proposing implementation of its ConnectForward service plan on September 7, 2020. This plan includes significant elements of route realignment, route elimination and creation of new routes, and is designed to maximize efficiency while minimizing impact to riders.

The proposed changes will be presented at a series of public meetings and hearings, scheduled for January 13 – February 6, 2020 (full schedule below). This is your chance to share your opinions and feedback about the proposed changes, and Omnitrans service in general. 

We encourage you to look over the proposed changes and share your constructive input. Details about specific routes, cities and communities impacted, and changes to the Access/ADA service area are provided on our website at:

The proposed changes are also available in a special booklet, ConnectForward – Proposed Service Changes for September 2020, which will be available onboard buses beginning January 6, 2020.

If you are unable to attend one of the public meetings, you may send your comments by mail to the Omnitrans main office located at 1700 West Fifth Street, San Bernardino, CA 92411 to the attention of the Strategic Development Department. Comments may also be submitted by telephone at (909) 379-7150, or by e-mail at planning@omnitrans.org. The deadline for comments is February 13, 2020 at 5:00 pm.

Regarding the replacement service for Route 365, please clarify the last sentence. “Proposed fares are $5 per trip, with a day pass, for fixed route service.” Does this mean a day pass and $5 will be needed to use the “micro transit”, or that a day pass will issued to connect with fixed-route buses?

  2. Regarding Route 290 service cuts, would they include the eastbound trip currently leaving Montclair at 9:43 AM, and/or the trip departing Montclair at 1:59 PM?

  3. The rE oval of route 7 is a very bad idea. As this route services 1 college campus as well as 3 k-12 schools. Also this is the only route close Enoch for me to do your Daly chute. By removing this you end up causing it were I can not get to school or work because the closest route would be way too far for me to walk. Also you would cause many college students and k-12 students a major inconvinance causing them not being able to get to and from school. Please reconsider this plan.

  4. please do not eliminate the route 5 bus it’s my transportation to work and the doctors. I am almost sixty and have severe asthma. I love the convenience of the 5 being right across the street from where I live. Thank you. Deborah Million

  5. Route 5 is critical for me and my family. Our grocery store, pharmacy, doctor and work are all along the route 5. Perhaps a smaller bus instead of the elimination of the route. Please reconsider this choice. Thank you.

  6. I personally think the changes are amazing!!! One question I’m a chaffey college student and I’m familiar with all the drivers but it seems like there’s different ones now this semester. Do they get transferred somewhere else? So sad 🙁 they were all so sweet:)

    1. Thank you for the feedback, Lauren. Every service change (on January, May, and September), drivers have the opportunity to bid for new shifts/routes, which is why you may see a new friendly face every now and then. Thank you for the nice comment about our awesome drivers!

  7. Tell me you are asking for comments if this is already a done deal. Why would you eliminate the route 5. A lot of people depend on that bus. A lot of elderly people. Run a bus down North Park??? Nobody on North Park needs a bus. Please reconsider this plan. Don’t your paying customers get a say in

    1. Hi DJ. Not a done deal. The changes, if approved, will be implemented in Sept. 2020. Thanks for the feedback. It will be considered as we move forward with the plan.

  8. So WHO at Omnitrans is the “genius” that came up with the idea of running both the Line 2, AND the SBX over the SAME EXACT ROUTE? Why not have the Line 2 run on weekends, and the SBX run on weekdays (or does that make too much sense?)! Additionally, your Line 1 buses have “overlays” at the SB Transit Center and Valley Collebe for WHAT REASON? If you are going to CUT SERVICE AND RAISE FARES, the least you can do is to KEEP THE BUSES MOVING! Or do the “planners” who come up with this nonsens, not even ride the bus routes they “adjust”? That is typical of a transit agency!

    1. I actually rely on the 2 to get to work on the weekdays. Some people actually rely on the 2, even if you think it’s annoying. 🙂

    2. The SBX has far to few stops and if you made more stops to replace the ones the 2 covers it would end up no really being an Express. The 2 is needed for all the little stops in between that the SBX doesn’t cover.

  9. Elimination of the route 5 and adding a route 6 dies not take care of the majority of the North end residents. We work hard for our money and have chosen a more environmental way to work school shopping and other errands by taking the bus and now you want to take it away. Keep the route 5 going for all the residents in the North end of the town to use and take advantage of. If it is the cost of the route perhaps you should tell the drivers that everyone that gets on should pay or the do not ride. I ride the route 5 every single me and almost every driver is letting people ride for free.. not fair to the people who are paying 60 dollars a month for a monthly pass or the six dollars for a daily pass

    Would it make a difference if I can get a certain time of people to sign a petition to keep the route 5. Thank you

  10. What about all of the people who live in the creekside neighborhood of Ontario? I rely on the 81 to get to work and school, not only me, but the haven/riverside and haven/creekside stops are very busy most of the time. You could at least have the 81 end there, or maybe have the 81 serve the proposed 87 route into eastvale. Or just have the 87 serve creekside. Many of us in this community are transit dependent, please do something to keep at least SOME bus service serving creekside, even if it’s an RTA line

  12. Hi, I’m a recent graduate who is slowly trying to save money to afford a car, pay my rent and just get to work everyday. I take the Bus 81 with my bike everyday to go to work, the hospital, & for the other tasks like groceries & working out. I use the bus stop on Riverside/ Haven, Archibald / Riverside and the Campus/ Riverside one on a daily basis. I also use Route 86 on Bon view/ woodland & Riverside/ vineyard. Without the bus system , I would not be able to commute to work since ubering back and forth is too expensive and not sustainable in the long run. I would have to bike 6-10 miles back and forth each day without this bus. Please let me know if Route 81 & 86 in Ontario is going to be affected and if so, what are the solutions to those similar to me on this route?

    1. Hi Cassandra. The proposed changes for Routes 81 and 86 are below:

      Route 81: Eliminate routing on Foothill, Aspen, and Red Oak. South of 4th Street, the route will no longer serve Ontario Mills, but service is available with a transfer to Route 61. The southern terminus (currently at the Chino Transit Center) changes to the East Ontario Metrolink Station. The route would no longer continue south of Mission or along Riverside.

      Route 86: Eliminate this route and incorporate service into new Route 87.

      Proposed Route 87: Combines the northern part of Route 80 between Chaffey College and 4th Street with the southern part of Route 86 between 4th Street and Riverside. Additionally, the route extends south of Riverside along Archibald to Ontario Ranch Road with an end-of-line near the San Bernardino and Riverside County Line.   13. I am so happy you are adding service to Montclair Station for route 84. Will it depart going southbound AFTER trains arrive? At least during the afternoon on weekdays? My biggest complaint about this location is that it seems although there is both the 88 and the 85 there, they always depart right as Metrolink is arriving. I always seem to get off the train watching one of these buses leave, and then wait 20+ minutes. Even if you cannot schedule this route according to metrolink… Will the driver for this route at least wait for a minute if they see a train arriving?? This is just very inconvenient and frustrating but it could instead be super convenient and nice. But overall so so happy that I can get to Montclair Station from Mountain Ave in Chino!!

    1. Hi Evan. Happy to hear that you’ll be able to get to Montclair easily. We always strive to schedule bus departures and arrivals in coincidence with Metrolink trains, and will do so with the 84 as well. Thank you for your feedback!

  14. The buses already don’t run often enough, early enough, or late enough. Yet the prices went up. Why are we paying more for less? If it’s volume of riders then use smaller buses for those routes. I hate how there’s routes that run only once an hour.

  15. The microtransit proposal will not generate ridership because your target market will not want to pay $200+ a pass every month for something that reduces their flexibility and freedom. What reasoning would they have to make the equivalent of a car payment for transportation and not have the flexibility of ownership? Chino Hills is not a city where they don’t own parking spaces nor do most businesses require employees to pay for parking. The riders you seek already own the assets in their driveway therefore opportunity cost you are presenting to people is not in your favor.
