Return Of The Roadeo!
After a 4-year hiatus, the Omnitrans Roadeo came rolling back to life earlier this month. The Roadeo event offers employees a chance to participate in a skill-building competition that showcases safe driving and maintenance skills. This year the Roadeo was attended by 100+ employees and their families. The event was kicked off by San Bernardino County Supervisor Jesse Armendarez and Omnitrans Boardmember John Dutrey.
“It’s great to be here at the first post-pandemic Omnitrans Bus Roadeo!” said San Bernardino County Supervisor Jesse Armendarez. “It truly is inspiring to see the professionalism and safety skills of the drivers who work hard for our customers every day. Thank you all for your service to our community, and good luck!”
The main draw of this year’s Roadeo was the driving competition, where Omnitrans employees maneuvered through a timed obstacle course that tested each driver’s skill in turning, backing up and pulling in to bus stops. As are the rules of the Roadeo, Omnitrans drivers participate in the National and Local category; Operations Field Supervisors, and Maintenace employees who hold a Class B driver’s license compete in the General category. Office employees can participate in the Novice category.
Families, friends and co-workers gathered around the Omnitrans bus yard perimeter to enjoy popcorn, face-painting, a photo booth, and most importantly to cheer on their favorites. Volunteers from other transit agencies and industries, including Altro Flooring, Foothill Transit, Keolis Transit, New Flyer, Riverside Transit Agency, Sunline Transit, Torrance Transit, Victor Valley Transit Authority and WeRide AZ/TransDev, lent a hand in judging the competition.
This year’s National Winner, Frank Triolo, JR., will represent Omnitrans at the International Bus Roadeo in Portland, Oregon on April 26, 2024.
