Larissa’s story is one of resilience, determination, and hope. A recent immigrant from Ukraine, Larissa has made her home in Beaumont, where she’s embracing a new life in Southern California. Leaving behind Europe’s renowned and efficient public transit systems, she now faces the challenge of navigating a completely different landscape. But she’s doing it with grace, optimism, and a desire to achieve her goals.
One of the key aspects of her daily life here is mastering the local transit routes—a task that many would find daunting but that Larissa approaches with tenacity. Every day, she starts her commute by catching the Beaumont Transit Commuter Route 120, which connects her to Omnitrans Route 1, taking her directly to the San Bernardino Transit Center. From there, she hops onto the SBX, rapid transit service, for the final leg of her trip to San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC). Her days are long, and her journeys are often complex but always purposeful.
Larissa’s story is not just about learning to navigate buses and routes but about navigating life. She’s currently enrolled in the Pre-Nursing program at SBVC, working hard toward her goal of transferring to California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), where she plans to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Her dedication to her studies and future career mirrors her commitment to adapting to her new surroundings.
Her journey on our local transit system is just a small part of her larger journey —a journey toward building a new life, fulfilling her ambitions, and giving back to her new community through a career in healthcare.
