OmniTrans Seeks Input on Proposed Temporary Suspension of Route 290
December 1, 2021
Over the last year and a half, OmniTrans has closely monitored ridership trends, demand, incrementally restored bus service and even introduced new transit options to better suit the changing needs of our community. In August, several bus route frequencies were increased, and other routes returned to service to better align with the start of in-person learning at our schools and colleges.
As the effects of the pandemic continue to manifest, OmniTrans now faces a Coach Operator shortage due to the continued tight labor market we are seeing nationwide. As such, OmniTrans must consider modification of service levels in January 2022 to continue to provide reliable service with the least impact on customers, which includes temporary suspension of freeway express Route 290. (View presentation video below.)
Route 290 currently serves the San Bernardino Transit Center, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Ontario Mills, and Montclair Transit Center. If Route 290 were suspended, these four destinations would still be served by local OmniTrans bus routes.
