Our Vets at Omnitrans
November 12, 2024
At Omnitrans, we are honored to support and employ many veterans who have served our country with dedication and bravery. This Veterans Day, we’re proud to highlight the contributions of these remarkable individuals to our team and community. Veterans bring unique skills, perspectives, and resilience, enriching every department across Omnitrans. Supporting veterans not only strengthens our workforce but also ensures we continue to serve the needs of our community with excellence and integrity. Please continue to read the amazing stories about our veterans.
Michael Plunket Jr. Served 4 years in the Navy. After 2 months in boot camp and 2 months of going to school for shipboard firefighting, they threw him into a 6-month deployment from San Diego to Hawaii. Michael is a perfect example of how you can have a fascinating career at Omnitrans. Starting at the bottom of the totem pole, Michael began his career as a Vehicle Service Worker, Mechanic Helper, Mechanic, and Supervisor, and almost 30 years later, he is now a Maintenance Manager! “It’s a great career,” Michael said, “It flows into military service in some ways. The structure and chain of command are the same. For us who were in the service, we liked the routine and knowing what to expect every day.”
“It was either Jail or Military.” Thomas Dahlin served 5 years with the Navy, two years after graduating high school. He was a Pilot Rescue Swimmer and an Operations Specialist who led a tactical group for anti-submarine warfare from 82’-87’. He recommends that many people who serve in the military need to find something to look forward to once they leave. “Omnitrans does a great job recruiting our veterans because they travel down to Camp Pendelton and reach out to military personnel for future careers with Omnitrans.”
Samantha Torigian served 16 years in the United States Air Force and retired as a Staff Sergeant! She was first stationed at Fort Bragg, and she was stationed all over the United States. “The main reason why I joined the military was for the school. I joined right out of high school once I turned 18.” Later in her service, Samantha went into more of an office role and gained the skills and knowledge that helped her in her current role as a Senior Contract Administrator for Omnitrans. “During my time in service, it was always ‘GO GO GO,’ and once I left the Air Force, I felt I constantly wanted to push myself and be busy with work. Leaving the military taught me to slow down and enjoy every moment.”
“I had a deadline… At the age of 29, if I was not a multi-millionaire, I would join the military.” Coming from a family of Air Force veterans, he chose a different route and joined the Navy. He continued his family tradition by working in designated aviation maintenance, which is heavily regarded as an airman. Jon served 4 years out of North Virginia, has four presidents that run through his bloodline, and was also part of setting a record for serving 9 months out at sea.
Their commitment to service didn’t end after their time in the military; it continues each day as they work to keep our community moving. From maintenance to customer service to operations, our veterans play a vital role in ensuring Omnitrans operates with precision, dedication, and a strong sense of purpose. We are grateful for their contributions and proud to stand alongside them in service to our community. Thank you for joining us in honoring these incredible individuals!
