Guide to January 2022 Service Changes
December 27, 2021
You have made it to the end of another year – cheers to that! As we look ahead to a bright 2022, OmniTrans is pleased to share some exciting transit service enhancements effective Monday, January 3, including a new microtransit program – OmniRide Bloomington – and new tripper service to help students at Colony High School in Ontario get to school conveniently (and free!).
While progress has been made throughout the year to restore bus service on several routes, as previously announced, a shortage of bus operators is affecting most transit agencies nationwide, including OmniTrans. After thoughtful consideration, Route 290 will be temporarily suspended starting January 3 to be able to continue delivering reliable service with the least impact to customers.

What even is “tripper service?” Tripper service is regularly scheduled bus service open to the public, and which is designed or modified to accommodate the needs of school students and personnel. In August, OmniTrans launched the Free Fares for School program, granting all K-12 students free bus rides on all our buses.
To help the students at Colony High School in Ontario get to class on time, the southbound Route 87 bus will serve the high school with a stop at Riverside Ave. and Mill Creek Ave. at 8:18 a.m. After school, the northbound Route 87 will serve the same stop at 3:38 p.m. The school tripper will operate Monday through Friday only and is free for all K-12 students with student ID.

Transit users in the area served by Route 329 will now be able to take advantage of the brand new on-demand, shared transit service known as OmniRide Bloomington! Route 329 will no longer operate starting January 3. Read more about OmniRide and how the service works.
As always, we thank you for bearing with us as we navigate this time of rebuilding. As a reminder: face coverings are still mandated by federal law onboard all public transit vehicles through March 18, 2022. We appreciate you doing your part to protect yourself and those around you.
