Guide to September 2020 Service Changes

The last several months have been an unusual and challenging time for all, and Omnitrans is no exception. Weathering the COVID-19 pandemic has been no easy task, from reducing bus service and operating on an emergency plan, to adjusting the way we ride and making necessary safety enhancements, it has been a time of quick change and adaptation. For this, we would like to say thank you to our San Bernardino Valley community. Your patience, understanding, and cooperation is much appreciated!

As we do each fall, Omnitrans will be implementing significant service changes taking effect on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Per the ConnectForward service plan, which was presented earlier this year for public input, new routes will be introduced, and some eliminated to streamline service. Most importantly, however, frequency will be restored on some of our most popular bus routes after reducing service due to COVID-19 and related stay-at-home orders earlier this year. Before you travel, get familiar with the service updates coming in September. Take a seat and grab some coffee – it’s a long list!

By popular demand, bus frequency will be added to the following routes: 1, 3, 4, 14, 61, and 66. Freeway express Route 290 is also returning, with peak service in the early morning and late afternoon.

As part of the service changes, Route 81 will now serve the Ontario-East Metrolink station to provide a connection to train commuters, and the new Route 87 will extend into the Riverside County line to serve the Eastvale Amazon distribution warehouses along Goodman Ave.

The routes which will be eliminated include: Routes 5, 7, 20, 80, 86, 308/309/310, and 325. New routes launching in September include:

  • Route 6, which combines parts of the previously existing Routes 5 and 7, serving San Bernardino.
  • Route 87, which combines parts of the previously existing Routes 80 and 86, serving Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, and Eastvale.
  • Route 305, which combines parts of the eliminated Route 5 and OmniGo Route 325 in Grand Terrace.
  • Route 319, which combines the eliminated OmniGo Route 309/310 in Yucaipa.

Additionally, Omnitrans is pleased to introduce OmniRide – the San Bernardino Valley’s first-ever “microtransit” service. OmniRide will provide on-demand service to residents and commuters within the Chino and Chino Hills region, previously served by the eliminated OmniGo Route 365. A modified Route 365 will will provide school tripper service when in-person teaching resumes.

OmniRide fare is $4 per ride (includes an Omnitrans day-pass for transfer to fixed-route buses or Metrolink) and reservation are made using the OmniRide On-Demand mobile app, like Uber or Lyft. Other Omnitrans bus routes have been slightly rerouted, eliminated, or placed on temporary hiatus due to school closures. See the full list below and plan before you travel!

Summary of all September service changes:

Route Eliminations

  • Route 5, now partly served by new Routes 6 and 305.
  • Route 7, now partly served by new Route 6.
  • Route 20, now partly served by Route 82.
  • Route 80, now partly served by new Route 87.
  • Route 86, now partly served by new Route 87.
  • OmniGo Routes 308/309/310 in Yucaipa, now served by new Route 319.
  • OmniGo Route 325 in Grand Terrace, now partly served by new Route 305.

New Routes

  • Route 6, which combines sections of eliminated Routes 5 and 7.
  • Route 87, which combines sections of eliminated Routes 80 and 86.
  • Route 305, which combines sections of eliminated Routes 5 and OmniGo 325.
  • Route 319, which combines eliminated OmniGo Route 309/310 in Yucaipa.
  • OmniRide, a new microtransit service, which will serve much of the area of eliminated OmniGo Route 365 in Chino and Chino Hills.

Routes with Restored/Increased Frequency

Service frequency will be restored or increased on these routes.

  • Route 1
  • Route 3
  • Route 4

  • Route 61
  • Route 66
  • Route 290 (Freeway express route with peak morning and afternoon service.)

Routes Temporarily Suspended

Temporarily suspended routes will tentatively return in January 2021, pending any new COVID-19 developments.

  • Route 67
  • Route 365 (school tripper service in Chino Hills)

Renamed Routes

  • Route 312, previously Route 12.
  • Route 329, previously Route 29.

Routes with Map or Frequency Changes

These routes have had routing or frequency changes.

  • Route 1
  • Route 2 (frequency change, no routing change)
  • Route 81
  • Route 82
  • Route 83
  • Route 84
  • Route 329 (previously named Route 29)

OmniAccess Service Changes

  • The boundary for OmniAccess paratransit service has changed. The window of time reservations has also changed. Now, OmniAccess reservations will need to be made between 1 and 3 days before the desired trip to reduce the amount of no-shows. Beyond-the-boundary service has been eliminated.       1. Hi Alex, Route 20 has been eliminated as part of the ConnectForward plan, and parts of it will now be served by Route 82. I apologize for the inconvenience.

  1. Busses are essential services for everyone. The 67 should be running ASAP. They say it may run in Jan 2021. It is the only bus that operates down Baseline. The ACLU should sue to protect the rights for people who do not have cars. I use the bus to go to the doctors. People with disabilities should sue.

  2. Here is an idea. If ridership is a concern: Have smaller busses, with more routes-not less. Have a bus line that runs down Archibald, and a bus that runs down Baseline from Upland to Fontana Station. Omni busses are great, but I think the routes and time tables need improvement. San Bernardino is a very large area, it needs public transportation. How are people going to get to work?

  3. Hello and I want to thank Omni Trans for their continued service throughout these COVID months. Although I’d like to see the 29 operational on Sundays, I am disappointed that the 325 is being taken out of service. Thank you however for continuing to serve our community. ☆☆☆☆☆ Class act!

  4. I understand ridership is down, but that is partly because of the lack of transportation. There are no adjustments to the routes that connect Redlands to the rest of the IE. I don’t use Omni as much simply because it’s impossible to get to/from anywhere in a timely manor now. And most of the buses are full just barely allowing social distancing, so obviously the demand is there.

  5. The #10 Bus needs to go back to every 30 minutes and run longer at night. The #10 needs to be insic with #22 Bus in Rialto. People are having to wait nearly an hour for the #22 after getting off the #10. Omni riders who ride the #10 should not be forgotten.

  6. When will there be a bus that rides down rancho Ave in colton ca,anywhere between valley and foothill blvd. Really need a route there.

    1. Hi Cecilia. Thank you for the suggestion! At this time, we do not intend to implement a new route along Rancho Ave., however, this will be forwarded with our service planning team for consideration in future route planning.

  7. I am outraged that omnitrans has removed bus service along Haven and riverside. As a resident of creekside in Ontario I suffer from knee and back pain and physically cannot walk to archibald or Ontario ranch road to catch the bus. I am going to have to resort to calling overpriced Ubers and bumming rides off of people which makes me feel bad. Please put something along Haven or riverside that will serve creekside! Why couldn’t the new 87 run down riverside to Haven or hammer? I know ridership is down but some of us like myself depend on transit! I don’t know what I’m going to do as I have no other options.

I agree with Pilar about Route 19 resuming to every 30 minutes, I am a veteran plus a senior citizen with Constant appointments at the VA; with the 1 hour bus schedule there are appointments that I cannot make because there is no bus service available. With the 30 minute bus schedule people were able to make their appointments.

  9. Hoping the Route 86 will be continue its operation; i can use it for going to my job at OAKMONT, San Antonio Heights, Upland CA starting point San Bernardino Transit station. And Route 19 very hard to wait for 30 minutes; one hour after 12:00 p.m.

  10. I agree with Adrian. I take route 81 from haven/riverside to get to work in rancho near haven/foothill and I don’t drive so that was pretty much my only option. On hot days I’m really not gonna want to walk to archibald, not to mention the 87 is a longer route plus I will have to transfer to the 66 as well. I think omnitrans is great but I don’t think leaving certain areas totally isolated is the right move. I really hope our community gets bus service again in the future.

    1. Regular bus fare will not be increasing. The $4/ride fare is exclusively for OmniRide, which is a new type of service serving Chino Hills.

  11. There is no bus service to the Colonies for people that work in Kohls, Target, and TJ Max. Why has all service been eliminated that leads to a major shopping area?

    The closest bus for me to get to work at Kohls is on 13th street and Campus, 5 blocks away from my job.

    1. We apologize for the inconvenience, Georgetta. Due to a drastic decrease in ridership to this area during the pandemic, service to the Colonies Crossroads is currently on hold until until January. Stay tuned for details later this year.

  12. I’m concerned that the new route 82 stop on sierra and slover might not be so visible. It is blocked by tree branches and other signs. Since the 6am bus was moved half an hour later I will take the 5am bus im just worried about being left behind

  13. Will the new Redlands Light Rail have impact other then rail construction? Will schedule and connect ability be convenient?

    1. Yes, we will continue to align schedules with neighboring agencies/transit services at points of connection as best as possible!

  14. I live in Ontario near the haven/turner stop on the 81, and I use it to get to work in chino. How will I get there now? I stopped driving my car because the bus service on riverside was very good but taking it away leaves riders like myself isolated… bring the 81 back!!

I can’t believe the 86 is being eliminated that is very unacceptable and Omni trans is terrible at this point I have never experienced a worst transit agency in my life or riding buses I wish RTA or Foothill could take over Ontario at this point they are taking so many routes that people use for there own pleasure at this point with all this covid I am super outraged

  16. I think the service changes are great but one thing I would like to see is route 67 to come back. I know ridership is down on that route but before the pandemic it was my main transportation method. Walking to foothill in this heat is not fun. I also want to see a omni express line run along the 210 and serve the azusa metro gold line station. It would make my commute to work in pasadena much easier.

  17. Before the schools shut down back in March my son used Route 81 to get to school at colony high school from our house in chino. Now when the schools reopen I’m not sure how he will get to and from school. I work during school hours and will not have time to drive him myself. Thank you omni trans for making our lives much more difficult
