Employee of the Quarter Sergio Villaseñor
June 22, 2021
Over the last quarter, Equipment Mechanic Sergio Villaseñor played a leading role in receipt of the agency’s first four 100% electric buses. Working closely with manufacturer New Flyer, Sergio performed stringent quality control and inspection procedures to ensure safe rollout of the new buses in May 2021.
Additionally, Sergio was instrumental in another sustainability effort – the repowering of several natural gas engines to near-zero emissions. Sergio took the time to reconfigure and prepare the new engines before sending them to the vendor for installation.
Thanks to Sergio’s oversight and dedication to his work, Omnitrans has established its path toward powering our entire fleet with zero-emissions buses, which will help contribute to cleaner air in the communities we serve.
Get to know Sergio:
How long have you worked at Omnitrans?
15 years.
What is the best part of your job?
I enjoy the autonomy I have as a mechanic. Management allows me to be self-directed, and when I complete tasks, they know that I will seek out the next project to work on with the Maintenance team. Maintenance Director Connie Raya even calls me “hyper-active,” in a good way!
What are some of the achievements you are most proud of?
Taking on the job of meticulously inspecting and testing the first four 100% electric, battery-powered buses. Electric buses are new for Omnitrans, so I had a multi-point system of performing quality control and I was not afraid to push back on vendors to ensure that our safety standards and expectations were met.
Any hobbies outside of work?
I love to rebuild engines even when I am not at work. It’s my passion, and even do it on my own time. I enjoy accompanying my family when they purchase a new car so that I can share my knowledge about engines and new technology.
