USPS Worker Relies on Omnitrans to Get to Essential Job

    April 19, 2020
    Tomeka B. rider profile

Grocery checkout lines snake through the aisles. Packages and letters stack on doorsteps and mailboxes. Doctors and nurses suit up for long shifts in hospitals. And buses carry people to their essential jobs.

It’s a challenging time in which we should all stay at home as much as possible to prevent further spread of COVID-19. However, there are certain functions of society that must keep moving, so that everyone else can stay comfortably at home. To those people, we say thank you!

As an essential public service, OmniTrans continues to provide transportation to those who need it to get to essential jobs. Tomeka B. of Redlands is one of our essential workers riding the bus to work every day. She shares her Omnitrans story with us, and how she is contributing to her community during this uncertain time.

How long have you been an Omnitrans customer?

I have been an Omnitrans bus rider since 1987 when I was a middle school student. I would ride Omnitrans to get me back and forth between school and home. Now, I continue to ride the bus to and from my job, but also to doctor’s appointments.

How did you get started riding the bus?

Since I don’t drive a car, Omnitrans has been my main source of transportation. I enjoy it because it gets me to where I need to be in a safe and timely manner, and I get to relax before work by listening to music, especially on longer trips. Also, I save money by buying a 31-day pass under normal circumstances.

What is your primary destination when commuting by bus?

I work for the United States Postal Service (USPS) at the Processing and Distribution Center in Redlands, CA. I always take Route 8 and it drops me off right in front of my job, so it is very convenient. My advice for anyone who has never ridden the bus is, if you want to go places without having to deal with wasting gas or dealing with traffic, Omnitrans is a great solution.

How has Omnitrans’ service positively impacted you during this health crisis?

As far as the coronavirus situation is concerned, my route has not been affected severely. I have had to adjust a little with boarding and exiting and taking other safety precautions. I just leave a little earlier now, to make sure I get to work. Because I am considered an essential worker, I heavily rely on Omnitrans to get me to my job so I can do my part in helping our fellow community members during these trying times. Thank you, Omnitrans!

I am grateful to have the bus to get back and forth to work in these difficult times. Don’t know what I would do if the buses were not available. Thank you Omnitrans
