COVID-19 Response: May 2020 Service Changes Cancelled, Emergency Service Plan In Effect

    April 26, 2020
    Bus operating reduced service image

    UPDATE
    06/18/20
Per the Governon’s official mandate, face coverings are now required to board and while riding any of OmniTrans’ services. Learn more about acceptable face coverings here.

    UPDATE
    06/01/20
Fare collection and front-door boarding has resumed on all OmniTrans services. We strongly encourage customers adopt contactless fare payment with the Transit or Token Transit mobile apps.

    UPDATE
    05/11/20
The County of San Bernardino no longer mandates face coverings when leaving your house, therefore our operators will no longer enforce face coverings for customers to board, or while riding, Omnitrans buses. Face coverings are strongly encouraged during the pandemic.

    UPDATE
    04/28/20
    – Fare suspension has been extended through May 31, 2020.

Under ordinary circumstances, we would be introducing May 2020 service changes and brand-new Bus Book right now. Needless to say, this plan has been upended by the COVID-19 situation we are all working through.

Omnitrans will continue to maintain bus service at current levels while the world continues to cope with the implications of coronavirus. Bus service changes will be updated on September 7, 2020, during routine September service changes each year.

In late March, Omnitrans implemented an emergency service plan due to a reduced ridership demand related to the health emergency and stay-at-home orders. In April, we further adjusted service on specific routes to better align with ridership levels during the pandemic. As a result, several service changes originally proposed for September 2020 were implemented earlier than anticipated.

Your understanding as we navigate this unexpected health crisis is much appreciated!

For routes that have been eliminated, there are alternative ways to reach key destinations on other Omnitrans routes if you must travel for essential needs. For trip planning assistance, please utilize the Trip Planner on our website, the Transit smartphone app, or call us at 1-800-966-6428 .

Your safety remains our top priority, but please remember it is a shared responsibility. While Omnitrans has made safety adjustments and enhanced bus cleaning protocol, it is equally important to take additional individual precautions if you must be out in public. Please remember to protect yourself and other community members by riding the bus for essential needs only during this time.

Letโ€™s work together to keep travel safe for those who need to keep moving so the rest of us can remain safe at home. We look forward to getting through this together!

    1. I am very disappointed that the 67 has been temporarily suspended. It is a very important bus route that connects with several buses. Baseline Street has many businesses. My leg is injured so I cannot walk to get to Foothill without pain. More people might ride the bus if they ran more often. I think there should also be a bus that goes down Archibald from 19th Street.

    2. Stupid change. I have family that lives not far from route 7. You people donโ€™t understand that walking in our heat is unbearable, you cut service every time. Now itโ€™s 30 minutes to walk from the sbx stop in the north end to their place. Route 7 did MORE than just transport people to Csusb.

      1. I agree with you on that one. Route 7 helps me get closer to home and now I have to walk about 1/4 of a mile either direction to either catch the 3/4 or 1/5 to get where I need to go…

      2. And they don’t see the perspective of the bus rider, these individuals that make these changes should walk to the next stop in the heat of day just to get the experience of being in the passenger’s shoes.

    3. Thank you for not eliminating the route 5. It takes me everywhere I need to go.thank you thank you

    5. Route 15 bus did not pass by this morning. Waited for an hour and nothing. Is there a problem or change with the service on this route? This has potential to impact me at work. I need to know somi can make changes. Thank you.

      1. Hi Rocio, our apologies for the inconvenience! I do not see any detours or delays this morning. Please call our customer service center at 1 (800) 966-6428 as they may have other recent information. Thank you!

    6. I want to thank omnitrans for their generosity in providing the free ride during these stressful times!!! I’m a regular rider in a wheelchair and have been treated with much kindness and the drivers are professionals in every sense of the word. Again thank you omni Paul Stearns 909-470-2832 .

      1. Since you state that masks are no longer necessary to ride, why did I TWICE today have drivers try to prevent me from riding without one?

    7. I think omnitrans should start operating the busy route more frequent cause stores and restaurants are going to open this week the route 15 that I take to work in morning has a longer wait time instead of 20 minutes it’s 50 minutes I have found other means of transportation to get not a good sign

      1. I agree! If theyโ€™re going to go back to normal fares, they should go back to normal schedules.

      2. OMNITRANS SUCKS! I hate the reduced service schedule, it does IMPACT my usually life daily now I had to adjusted my daily life to follow OMNITRANS STUPID REDUCED SERVICE SCHEDULE. I AM GONNA PROTEST AND CHANTING I WANT NORMAL SCHEDULE BACK!! I give BIG THUMB DOWN ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿฝ

    8. I feel that if OMNI is once again collecting fares, allowing front door access, and not enforcing face masks to be worn on buses anymore then they should return bus services and times to normal schedules once again. You’ll start to take our $ once again(and don’t get me wrong that’s fine and expected) but we still have to have the hardships and inconveniences of this reduced schedule change! For example I am scheduled to be at work at 11pm and with normal schedule I would get to work with good time BUT with this reduced change I have to leave my house at 6pm and get to work at 8:30-9pm so I have a lot of time I have to wait before I start. That is so exhausting and I’m losing sleep. And what’s funny is that OMNI once again started collecting fare, allowed front door access, and no longer require face mask to be worn on buses as soon as they put up those plexiglass barriers which in my opinion is not to keep the riders and coach operators safe as they continuously say BUT TO ONLY KEEP THERE COACH OPERATORS SAFE. The bus services and times should be returned to regular operation because after all since everything is opening up again there are more riders once again using your services which throws essential travel out the window.

    9. Route 7 was so important and beneficial to so many people I really hate that they took it offf, this makes it hard for people who relied on that bus

      1. Why would you guys cancel route 7 my dad needs that bus to get to work itโ€™s so hard for him to get to work now … he just got this job heโ€™s been jobless for months now and you guys decide to take it off now my dad struggles to get to work every single day thanks a lot

    10. Since you state that masks are no longer necessary to ride, why did I TWICE today have drivers try to prevent me from riding without one?

      1. Masks are strongly encouraged to ride for your own protection and fellow riders. I apologize for the inconvenience. If you would like, please call us at 1-800-966-6428 and provide more information to file a complaint. Thank you for contacting us.

    11. I have a question about your 6/18 update. First, the Governor has no legal authority to issue orders of this nature. Second, numerous studies from credible sources, such as Oxford, have discredited the use of face coverings as a preventative measure. Third, many of those same sources have documented the danger of hypoxia and increased risk of contracting other respiratory infections from face coverings (I can send you links to source material if you wish). Taking these facts into consideration, when I try to board a bus without a mask, are we going to have a problem?

      1. This is a CDC recommendation for public transit use, and to abide with State orders, masks are required to board and while riding OmniTrans services. Anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance will be exempt from wearing one.

    12. The token app is not processing fare payment, however the bus is now requiring fare to ride.

    13. I rode your buses for 5 years I almost lost my job 2 times because i was always late and the last straw was when a bus made a left turn while a car was speeding towards us I never ever thought she would take that risk we were hit in the back of the bus were i was sitting i lost my job !!! I’m homeless thanks to your service

    14. Can Omnitrans please bring back the courtesy fair during this pandemic again?? I work everyday still not getting extra pay for working during this crazy time. Riverside Transit and Foothill transit in Montclair both don’t charge yet Omni still charges? Coming from a loyal customer needing assistance during the pandemic

      1. Thank you for the suggestion, Nick. We understand times are tough for a lot of us right now, but unfortunately, we are not in a position to forego fare collection. Apologies for the inconvenience. We advise looking into any assistance offered by your city, local non-profits, or other community organizations and churches. Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern.
